Making Physical Security a Top Priority
Millions of employees continue to work from anywhere as the number of COVID-19 cases increases across the nation. This means workers don’t have access to secure internal networks, IT teams, or any of the other cybersecurity resources available to them in the office.
Consequently, a number of security concerns arise when it comes to home and public networks and technologies. For example, the typical American household has 11 connected devices, many of which are insecure home devices like smart appliances. In the work from anywhere economy, insecure devices in public places pose even more threats. That’s why physical device security is vital in the remote work era.
NINJIO COO/CISO Matt Lindley recently shared his tips for physical security awareness in a Toolbox for Security article. He highlighted the importance of understanding the risks in WFA: improper device use at home can lead to security breaches; employees have to be wary of public IoT devices, such as smart printers and scanners; if an employee’s laptop is stolen, the last line of defense is data encryption.
He also shared questions to ask as employee work on adopting a work-from-anywhere security mentality:
-
Is your device locked?
Is it in a spot where it could be stolen?
Is it equipped with multi-factor authentication?
What other devices could be on your network? Are they secure?
Cybersecurity in 2021 and beyond will rely on the judgment and awareness of your employees. To learn more, read the rest of the article here.
